Shaq Roland from Lexington High School: One of the most electrifying athletes in the state has verbally committed to play football at USC. Basketball could also be in the mix
Aiken, SC (WLTX) --- When Lexington's Shaq Roland announced over the weekend he intends to play football at USC, he did so in private.
Roland posted a message on his Facebook page saying he was verbally committing to the Gamecocks. There were no cameras to capture images of relief and excitement, no cheering fans and no hats from various schools sitting in front of him.
But the impact of the announcement was the same as Roland hopes to follow in the footsteps of Alshon Jeffrey and have an All-American career.
Roland is also an excellent basketball player and he says he has given some thought to playing both sports at USC. Roland and his AAU team were in Aiken Tuesday competing in the annual Peach State Summer Showcase, a tournament that brings together top talent from all over the country.
Roland is as comfortable on the hardwood as he is on grass and it's that versatility and athleticism that has made him one of the state's top prospect heading into the 2011 season.
